“Hey good lookin’…Whaaaaa-tcha got cookin’?”

I’ve taken that to heart.  If I must be less than satisfied with my kitchen setup, than I will certainly make sure I am excited about how I look baking.  Honestly, most often I am baking in the morning and still wearing pajamas, but this desire to “look good” is simply referencing the most important necessity in the kitchen – the apron!

The four aprons I have are all gifts from amazing friends, my lovely sister, and the (only?) nice neighbor of ours who was so excited to see us move back into our house after our three-year San Francisco hiatus. I need more!  I know, I know, four aprons seems like it should be plenty.  We all know how things work – they get dirty because they do actually serve a purpose, and suddenly all four are in the laundry and I am apron-less.  APRON-LESS!  I’ve spent plenty of time perusing the Interwebs and have fallen in love with many all over the place.  But, I’ve decided to make my own!  My sewing machine usually gets some serious use around Halloween, and this year is no exception!

I decided for a last-minute pocket.  I had stuff baking in the oven and our little dude was about to wake up from a nap, so I was totally rushed.  Yup, that’s the apron string, sewn to the apron in the photo above.

A little bit of this, and it was a quick fix. 

I can’t explain why my legs are crossed or the jazz hands…

Ta-da!  My apron!  Seriously one of the easiest and quickest things I’ve ever made with my sewing mahcine!  I totally winged it making my own pattern, and it worked out well.  I think there’s some scientific proof floating around somewhere supporting the theory that this apron is responsible for how tasty that wild mushroom tart was.
