Adventures in Blueberries

Jack and I spent some time picking blueberries yesterday with some ladies near and dear to us.  We made the gorgeous hour-long drive over to Fennville, Michigan.  I am falling in love with that area!  We went to an organic blueberry farm called Pleasant Hill Farm.  We grabbed our buckets from the most adorable shed ever, sang songs of the impending bounty of berries we were about to reap, and got to work.  I’m not going to point any fingers, but a certain little someone went by the one-for-the-bucket, one-for-the-mouth method.  It seemed to work well.

As we walked through row after row of bushes, the berries got more plump and more amazing.  Shouts of “I found some huge ones!” were repeated over and over as we all got lost in the branches and our trance-like berry-picking.  I would be talking to someone on the other side of the row, and suddenly their voice was coming from rows away.  It was a gorgeous maze of deliciousness, and all I could think about was the debate of making either blueberry jam or a blueberry pie.  If I didn’t have a nearly-three-year-old who tapped out three pounds of blueberry picking into it, I could’ve been there forever.

Fun! I did part of my student teaching in Fennville and my wedding cake was made by a woman from Fennville, so I have a soft spot for the place. Pleasant Hill Farm sounds like my kind of adventure!

I’m envious..That area around Fennville is so pretty. I used to go winetasting at Fennville winery when I lived in Buchanan, MI. Your post reminded me of many trips with my mother and grandmother berry-picking. Such a zen-like occupation! Cheers!

Beautiful shots! Jack’s outfit kills me! Such a sweet little man! :) Have you and Jack read Blueberries for Sal? That was one of my faves as a kid.

Wow, I didn’t know blueberry farms exist! Looks great. I just went to woods to look some blueberries and yes, they are finally here, despite of rainy summer.

This is my first time here, your blog looks wonderful! Greetings from blueberry forest heaven, also known as Finland :)
